Pantry Door Remodel

This is what our pantry doors looked like before. Very plain with no shape to the doors whatsoever. There wasn't even a handle or anything! So of course I had to do something about it. I love the "barn style look" and decided to upgrade these doors.

We used the same doors, but just added to them. We created a "Z" design out of 1x4's. We nailed the 1x4's to the original doors, and filled in the holes with wood putty

Then I stained the wood with a dark walnut stain. This part was a little trickier than anticipated. Tip: stain the 1x4's before nailing them to the door. We didn't go in that order, unfortunately, so I had to put painter's tape on the white door and stain very carefully. Because of the dark contrast, if any stain got on the white door it would be VERY noticeable!

Here is my dad hanging up the doors. It took a little maneuvering to fit the doors back in the pantry because the added wood made the doors thicker.

And the finished product!! Aren't they great?! I wish I took more pictures of the barn door hardware, but forgot. That part was extremely difficult as well. They sell barn door hardware kits, but they cost on average around $500! I was not willing to pay that much, so we pieced it together. We got the long piece of steel from a local steel yard. It cost around $30. We got the two vertical hanging pieces from Big R, a western supply store. The wheels were in the garage door section of Lowes. The nuts/bolts/screws were all purchased from Lowes as well. All in all, piecing the hardware together took a little more time to figure out, but it was well worth it. This whole door remodel cost around $100. What a bargain!!
